Program: Birding Northwest Ecuador: The Chocó Region, by Rick Grove.

Rick participated in his first birding tour in northwest Ecuador in March with Sabrewing Nature Tours, and was treated to over 320 species. In this program, learn more about the western Andean Chocó, its endemic birds, and the people making Ecuador a model of conservation and ecotourism such as Angel Paz and his famous Antpittas.

Rick retired from a career in education in June, most recently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services for the Carlsbad Unified School District. In addition to serving as the Vice President of the San Diego Field Ornithologists (a position which he boasts to be the least qualified person to ever hold), he sits on the Board of Directors of Buena Vista Audubon and is a Field Trip Leader at the San Diego Bird Festival and leads the monthly Agua Hedionda Lagoon bird walk. He studied at the Moore Laboratory of Zoology and earned his Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Economics from Occidental College and his Masters’ Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of LaVerne.
