eBird media processing times


As some or many of you may have noticed, eBird's processing times of
media have been longer than normal lately, sometimes significantly
longer than normal. Particularly audio files. I had a couple take
somewhere between 12 and 24 hours to get processed recently. I sent
a query to eBird three or four days ago asking about it, and today I
received this response. Thought I'd share it in case anyone else was
wondering what is going on:

The Macaulay Library wildlife media archive, which stores all
eBird photos and recordings, is experiencing unusually high server
traffic. As a result, media processing may take much longer than

Once your media files are processing no further action is
needed; files are processed in the order they are received.
Please do not try to delete and re-upload your files, as this
can increase your wait time even more.

Our team is currently looking into solutions to improve media
processing times. We appreciate your patience during this period
of above-average server loads.
