continuing semipalmated & Baird’s sandpipers south San Diego Bay 8-23-23
2:23 pm
While conducting snowy plover surveys in closed portions of South San Diego Bay NWR saltworks this morning, on first pass I had no rarities (likely influenced by the 2 peregrines & harrier working throughout), but later at 8:30 had 2 Baird’s sandpipers and 3 lesser yellowlegs in SE pond 20. They were still there on return 9:15 to 9:30 as were a Baird’s and semipalmated sandpiper in S pond 21 and another Baird’s in SSE pond 22. A reddish egret continued on the N shore. Each are likely to shift around and be visible at times from the bikepath east of 13th St.
