cont. Buff-breast, miscellanea, Jacumba/Pine Valley
On Tuesday, the 13th, the Buff-breasted Sandpiper continues on and on and on at the sod area in the TRV. A continuing Least Bittern at the main Dairy Mart pond is the only individual I've noted locally in months. A very rare sight this AM was a Merlin perched on utility lines at South San Diego Bay. I've seen Merlins perches on wires no more than about 5 times in my life. Continuing W. Wood-Pewee in Lincoln Park right at the usual departure date. There are PLENTY of Yellow-rumped Warblers around now at favored sites, although other migrant warblers, vireos, flycatchers, etc. have thinned out to low levels.
An Oct 12th visit to Jacumba and Pine Valley turned up no rarities, with just continuing late duos of Cassin's Kingbirds and Costa's Hummers at Jacumba, and single, late Costa's and Rufous/Allen's continuing at Pine Valley. A Bullock's Oriole at Jacumba was somewhat late for the interior.
