Several folks looked for the adult Broad-winged Hawk along the San Diego River in Mission Valley as reported yesterday by Phil Unitt–both yesterday afternoon and this morning, and so far without luck. Given the date, hopefully the bird will remain in the general area, although they can be somewhat sneaky at this time of year. A B-t Gray Warbler was there this morning. I took advantage of the Christmas morning peace and quiet on the SDSU campus and poked around a little bit and had just a B-t Gray Warbler there as well. In nearby residential “College Area” there were 2 Western Tanagers, and there was a group of 4 Western Tanagers at Old Trolley Barn Park in University Heights.
Yesterday, the 24th, a female Hooded Oriole was near the main, archway entrance to the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad. A returning bird for its second winter.
