Calliope Hummingbird in Presidio Park

Calliope Hummingbird in Presidio Park
By {authorlink} – 10:57 am

Late morning on Friday there is a male Calliope Hummingbird coming to the large patches of Pride of Madera at the southeast corner of the loop road at the top end of Presidio Park. This is a site that has had Calliopes in past springs as well. When not feeding at the flowers, I’ve seen it perch in dead twigs in a small oak tree immediately to the right of the Pride of Madera patches. There are multiple Allens/Rufous feeding here as well, and Anna’s, and you basically just have to keep waiting and watch all the incoming hummingbirds until it shows up.

Numbers of landbird migrants are up today. Reasonable number, not super, but better than it’s been!
The Neotropic Cormorant continues on the mudflats in the San Diego River channel from Robb Field.
