Buena Vista Audubon sponsored pelagic birding, June 3, 2023

9:40 am

Hello Birders,

Just a reminder that we are a week out from the Saturday June 3rd. BVAS pelagic birding trip..
The trip is aboard the 80ft. Legacy out of Seaforth Sportfishing Landing in Mission Bay. We depart at 7 a.m. ( please check into the office between 6-6:15 a.m.) and will return no later than 6 p.m. Cost is $160. Parking is free in front of the landing and on the street.
Call Seaforth Landing at 619 224-3383 during business hours ( 7 a.m.-5 p.m.), for your reservation.
The spring pelagic birding is not quite as exciting as the fall, but don’t underestimate the possibilities. That one special bird is out there.
A recent scouting trip found an early Cook’s Petrel,  Craveri’s Murrelets, and Ashy Storm-Petrels
Spring is also somewhat better for an albatross, South Polar Skua, and perhaps one of the northern alcids ( can we say puffin?? ). Hope springs eternal !
This is a great chance to compare Scripps’s Murrelets ( soon to depart ) and Craveri’s Murrelets ( just arriving ), then who knows? Guadalupe Murrelets ( a really tough San Diego find ) are out there somewhere. I’d love a local three murrelet day !! I don’t know if that’s been done before?
I hope you’ll join us. The ocean conditions have much improved, and the whale show ( Blue, Fin, and Humpback )
is always nice this time of year.
