Borrego cormorant identification

There appears to be some question as to the identification of the Borrego cormorant. Nancy included a couple good photos of the panting bird with her eBird report from yesterday, and several of us believe the bird may be a young double-crested cormorant. Certainly these two species have generated lots of debate in the past, and the fact the bill is open might affect the shape of the gular patch. However, that said, several of us still lean toward double-crested, while others are agnostic. But so far no solid votes for Neotropic. As such it might be best to hold off driving all the way to Borrego to look for it until the ID is further resolved.
