Black Oystercatcher near mouth of Tijuana River
I visited the Tijuana River mouth midday on Saturday. On the way back to the parking area, a juvenile (mostly dark-billed) Black Oystercatcher flew by headed south. The exact location was near the south end of the berm and the bird stayed about 10 yards offshore. I watched the bird continue to fly to about the mouth of the actual river, at which point I could no longer see it clearly. Also in the area were a few previously reported species, 2 Brown Boobies and 2 Large-billed Savannah Sparrows feeding on the piles of kelp washed up on the beach.
