Black-chinned Sparrow in Vallecito, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
Hi, All …
On 9/14 I had a visit from a bird I hadn't seen before … a medium-sized sparrow, steel gray with a pale pink bill. When the bird alighted in a shallow bath I could see that its back and wings (unlike any other part of its body) were brown with black streaks. It was a Black-chinned Sparrow without the classic black chin probably indicating that it was either a juvenile or a female or both. Very striking bird. 4 photos.
