Batiquitos Reddish Egrets
Of local interest to north county birders perhaps, a walk today with my daughter, wife and dog (all birders except the dog) along the Batiquitos Lagoon North Bluff trail (just east of the railroad tracks) turned up a mature Reddish Egret canopy hunting along the north shore. At a later stop at the pump station along the 101, to check out a possible second Egret in the pool between the 101 and the railroad tracks spotted by my daughter, there was a presumed Immature Reddish Egret molting into mature plumage along the west shore, along with a nice collection of terns. Pictures of this strangely multicolored egret are available.
