Balboa Park – west side CBC highlights
Highlights from the west side of Balboa Park on Christmas Bird Count day,
courtesy the CBC team (myself, Chris Smith, Michelle Haglund, Supeena Adler,
Rich Norgaard and Mark Stratton):
Dusky-capped Flycatcher, found by Rich and Mark, east side of lawn bowling courts then flying to the east side of the dog run area.
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, east side of the dog run area (thanks to Paul & Justyn for
confirming from photos)
Plumbeous Vireo, redwood circle
2 Pine Siskins and a Black-and-white Warbler, 6th & Quince
A wayward Osprey was heading north over the 163
1 male Hooded Oriole, at the Marston House
3 Bullock's Orioles, Marston canyon
A grab-bag of non-Oregon Juncos in the northwest corner of the park includes 1 Slate-colored,
1 Gray-headed, 1 cismonstanus, and 1 sort-of pink-sided but with a dark, trapezoidal chin so
probably not a pure pink-sided.
