Balboa Park Northern Parula & Summer Tanager
12:53 pm
Tuesday morning, there was a female-type Northern Parula along the west edge of Balboa Park, in tipu trees on the lawn a couple hundred feet south of El Prado/Laurel. Being harassed by Yellow-rumps, so not sure how long it will last. And there was a female or immature Summer Tanager, with a couple Westerns, between the Spreckel’s Organ Pavilion and the International Cottages. By my calculation, there have now been 8 Summer Tanagers in the county over just the past 4 days (plus, of course additional birds since August)–so perhaps it will be another strong winter for this species locally.
