American Redstart at Ft Rosecrans (and more)
Visitors from Arizona, Karen and Terry, showed me the female American
Redstart they found this morning, Sept. 7, shortly after 8AM. It was in
the red-flowering euc along the road to the euc grove, past the admin
(or caretaker?) house on the east side of the cemetery. It flitted in
the canopy, showing the yellow patches at the base of the sometimes-
spread tail and a pale gray face with white near the eye.
I birded only the euc grove area and the NW corner. LOTS of Western
Wood-pewees, Pac-slope flycatchers, and Wilson's Warblers. The only
vireo I saw in the NW corner was Warbling.
