Today, Nov 23, a female American Redstart was in Coronado. The TWO Tropical Kingbirds at DairyMart were seen simultaneously. A count of 40 Black-crowned Night-Herons there was reasonable. Yesterday, there was a hybrid Eurasian X American Wigeon at Eastlake in eastern Chula Vista. A visit to Lower Otay Lake produced 4 “Thayer’s” Iceland Gulls, 7 Glaucous-wingeds, and a couple Glaucous-winged X Herring hybrids–all first-cycle birds. This is encouraging to have these numbers now, as last winter was a poor season for white-winged gulls in the county. Also at Lower Otay was a single Violet-green Swallow with about 30 Trees and 2 Barns; this species is very rare at this time of year.–Paul Lehman, San Diego
