A flurry of Townsend’s Solitaire sightings
By {authorlink} – 9:53 am
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen multiple Townsend’s Solitaires together, multiple times, in Lyons Valley, in the eastern portion of Jamul. This morning I had four for sure, and perhaps as many as five. They’re making foraging flights to the ground from a barbed wire fence that flanks Skyline Spur: a little dirt road that connects Lyons Valley Road with Skyline Truck Trail. Coordinates approximately 32° 42′ 59″, 116° 45′ 21″. When you see a big wooden sculpture of a wizard holding a bowling ball, you know you’re in the right place. Private property flanks Skyline Spur on both sides, but you can likely see everthing you need to see from the road. I have also seen TOSO in a couple of other locations in Lyons Valley in the last couple of weeks, presumably different birds, 600-1000 m from the place where I’ve repeatedly seen several at once.
