White-breasted Nuthatch, Morley Field (Balboa Park)

Not really a stop the presses bird, but a White-breasted Nuthatch at Morley Field was a nice surprise for my local patch (I don’t see anything in eBird for 2020 west of the San Diego Mission). For any 5MR folks it was northeast of the archery range here:

Aside from a Black-throated Gray and a few Lazuli Buntings, there was little evidence of fall migrants.

a molting male Indigo Bunting along Hollister Avenue in the TRV. The bunting wasn't too far from the B&B Garden so could well been one of the two male that summered there, although it being a migrant Indigo is certainly possible as well.

Spent an hour or so yesterday morning (8/31) at the Bird & Butterfly Garden; didn't encounter any Indigo Buntings. Everything was pretty quiet; best bird was probably a Bell's Vireo at the drip.

California thrasher with a very long bill?

Good afternoon,
This morning, in Kate
Sessions park, I had a California Thrasher with (at least in my
experience) an exceptionally long and decurved bill.  Since I can't find
much information confirming such bill shape variance in this species, I thought I'd
see if anyone here believed this identification to be incorrect.

More info, including a recording of a call note, can be found at
